My art is about taking part of an ancient tradition of telling the story of God being with us. It is a necessary response to new spiritual revelations, joy and suffering, love and sorrow. I am a lover of Christ, life, and oil paint. Through my artwork I seek to visually communicate a theology of scripture and real life. The viewer is encouraged to ponder each piece of my work; as a quick look cannot grasp its meaning. I paint both what is concrete and what is emotional. There is a freedom that I feel to give up some control and let the paint do the work, and also deliberately lay out focal points. It is my hope that my appreciation for art history and theology is conveyed in my work. By visually continuing to tell this old story, I hope to not only worship God, but also point my viewers to Him, the true Creator. |
